So I've needed to have the patience to keep taking the trades. Instead, profits come in cycles, and I can never tell for sure when another profit cycle is coming. I haven't found a way to get a constant flow of profits that comes in on a daily basis or anything as consistent as that. It worked! To profit from them has required me to be patient though. The end result: several years of my own personal research and back tests do indeed show that there are historical profitable edges in the stock market. I also went through seemingly countless permutations of position sizing, and portfolio composition. It felt like I had gone to Back Testing Heaven! As I got deeper into the research, I discovered and explored potential pitfalls of algorithmic testing. Then I learned how to code using a quantitative programming language so that I could do research more efficiently and accurately. It was like seeing the inner workings of price activity at the most granular level. It was mind-numbing but also incredibly informative. For about a year in the beginning, I did manual testing and research. As I started to do research, I realized there was a whole lot to learn. So I set out to start doing my own stock market research to see which trade strategies have actually been profitable throughout history. It became clear to me that I was trading blindly because I didn't even know the historical success rate for the trade strategies I was using. n I first tried my hand in the stock market, I tried a lot of different trading strategies. I also tend to think of things in terms of probabilities. I'm a major "numbers guy" and I get a lot of pleasure out of studying the patterns of stock prices.
